Office events are a different catering discipline to daily team lunches. The room is often standing rather than seated. Food has to be grazed rather than plated. Presentation is on display continuously rather than served and cleared. Allergen management has to work for guests who do not necessarily have the same awareness of dietary options as your own regular team. And the event itself — terrace drinks, a client reception, a summer social, a team celebration — is a reflection of your organisation's standards to people who may be making judgements about you while they eat.
Vanda's Kitchen provides cold buffet event catering to London offices, terraces, and private venues from our EC4 base near St Paul's Cathedral. Certified halal, 100% nut-free kitchen, stocked in Selfridges Food Hall, 5-star food hygiene. Our event catering is designed specifically for receptions, drinks events, and standing socials — not simply a daily lunch platter scaled up. View our catering options.
Why event catering is different
The first distinction is the serving model. For a sit-down lunch, food is served at 12:30 and cleared by 14:00. For a drinks event or reception, food is laid out for two to three hours of continuous service while guests circulate, hold glasses, and move between conversations. The format has to stay presentable throughout that window — salads cannot wilt, sandwiches cannot dry out, proteins cannot lose texture. That is a specification problem, not simply a volume problem, and it influences which dishes are appropriate and how they are prepared.
The second distinction is guest diversity. At an internal lunch, the caterer is briefed on known allergies and requirements within the team. At an event, guests include clients, partners, new hires, prospective customers, and people whose dietary needs are unknown. The catering has to handle this uncertainty well. Clear allergen labelling on every dish, visibly separate vegan and vegetarian options, and genuine halal and nut-free provision — these are not nice-to-haves at a corporate event; they are the difference between guests eating comfortably and guests quietly going hungry.
The third distinction is presentation. A lunch platter can land on a table and be adequate. An event spread has to look like it was deliberately chosen for this event. Fresh flowers, proper serving boards, considered arrangement, garnishes that are there because they belong rather than decoration for its own sake. The visual standard has to match the occasion.
What we provide for event catering
Our cold buffet format is built around dishes that hold their quality across an extended service window. Marinated proteins on skewers or planks, substantial salads with sturdy ingredients that do not wilt (grains, roasted vegetables, dense leaves), cheese and charcuterie selections, crostini and flatbread selections, and chef-designed platters that present well and stay presentable. Portions are calculated for grazing across the event rather than a single plate per guest.
For halal catering, our certification covers the entire kitchen — every item at an event we supply is halal, without the need to mark individual dishes differently or worry about cross-contamination. Guests who require halal can eat from anywhere on the table rather than being confined to marked options. For nut-free events, the same structural assurance applies: our kitchen has never contained nuts, so every dish is safe for guests with severe nut allergies without the risk management overhead of a shared kitchen facility.
All dishes are labelled in line with Natasha's Law, with clear indication of the 14 UK-regulated allergens on each item. See our full allergen matrix to plan your event menu around specific requirements.
Who we cater events for
Client receptions, terrace drinks during the warmer months, Christmas parties, summer socials, new-office launch events, team milestone celebrations, training day lunches with reception-style service, AGM receptions, and investor events. Our clients include law firms, financial services businesses, tech companies, creative agencies, healthcare organisations, and professional services firms across the City of London, Westminster, and central London.
For outdoor summer events specifically, our cold buffet format avoids the issues that affect hot food in warmer conditions. Food stays fresh, presentation stays intact, and allergen-safe serving remains manageable. For events on office terraces, roof gardens, or outdoor venues, this matters more than indoor events — the catering cannot be remade on site if something goes wrong with temperature, so the format has to be right from the outset.
Ordering event catering
Event catering typically requires 48 to 72 hours' notice depending on guest count and complexity. For events over 50 guests, we recommend a conversation about format and menu rather than simply placing an order from standard options — menu construction for larger events benefits from tailoring to the specific event purpose. Minimum event order value is £500 for delivery within central London; we deliver across our core London zone.
To discuss a specific event: WhatsApp us directly, send an enquiry, or request a call through our contact page. For repeat event catering across a season — Christmas parties, summer socials, regular client events — we work with organisations on blanket arrangements that simplify the booking process.
